Anyone who loves wildlife photography, birding, or just enjoys watching animals has a story of why they fell in love with animals. I'm no different, I have lots of stories of why I fell in love with animals. But the reason I fell in love with wildlife photography comes down to two pictures.
First:
This is the picture that really jump started my interest in wildlife photography. I took it summer 2010, while on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. It was my first trip without my parents; I went with a couple of friends after our High School Graduation. The first thing we did in Yellowstone was to visit Old Faithful, while waiting for the geyser to go off we explored the board walks admiring the other geological features in the area. That’s when I saw this Chipmunk, he was so accustomed to people that I was able to take this picture with my point and shoot camera from a foot away. After going through all of my pictures from that trip, this was my favorite, I liked it so much that a week after the trip I went and bought a DSLR camera and decided to start taking wildlife photography seriously. I really wished I had had the foresight to get my DSLR sooner.
Second:
This picture sky rocketed my interest in wildlife photography to the next level. I took this in February of 2011 in the University of Idaho Arboretum. I had been visiting the arboretum every chance I got to take pictures. Once winter arrived and less people came to the arboretum this Great Blue Heron started frequenting the arboretum to hunt. I would sit in the snow for hours every chance I got, taking hundreds of pictures. That's when I managed to capture this picture. The heron caught a fish and flew across the pond right past me to eat his meal on the opposite bank.
These two pictures shaped my obsession with wildlife photography into what it is today.
